Howdy, Does anyone know a place where I can get some stylish (vintage-ish) glasses frames without breaking the bank? ($30-70 range). Most of those designer shops are recockulously expensive. Odd question, but this tucson group usually can deliver. - dylan |

Non-Stop Tucson to LaGuardia starting Jan 10, 2010
JetBlue is long gone, but starting on January 10, Southwest will have non-stop flights to LaGuardia/NYC! (I don't work for Southwest, I'm just a traveler who prefers non-stop to bizarrely circuitous, which was the case with my last flight between NYC & Tucson.) www.southwest.com |

Network Maintenance: Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 04:00-06:00 UTC/GMT
On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice. Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials. We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait! As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work. |

A horse of course!
Hi friends, Thanks for all the excellent suggestions for bone sources yesterday, you guys are rad! My newest wish and dream is to find a horse to ride. I'm not willing to pay someone money for nose-to-tail bullshit trail riding. I've spent a lot of time with horses and I want to actually RIDE (western only, natch). I'd be willing to work in exchange for riding privileges. I'm pretty good with the regular horse stuff, mucking, grooming, cleaning, picking hooves, feeding etc. I'm also down to learn whatever you'd like to teach me. I just really missing working with and riding horses. Help a homesick lady out? Thanks dears! -C |

Roommate Legal Advice in AZ
Hello Everyone- I need some legal advice concerning a now ex-roommate. He and my other roommate broke up and he moved out. However, he hasn't come back to get his name off the lease or to pick up the rest of his stuff. I'm not sure where he's staying. He also owes me for last month's rent and utilities. Is there any free/cheap place that I can seek legal advice regarding what to do about him paying me back & what to do about his stuff he left? What are the small claims and abandonment procedures like in Arizona? Thanks. -Stephan |

A bizarre and vaguely creepy request.
Hi friends, I need some bones for a project. Any shape or size, tiny to huge. I'm also very interested in getting a ribcage of some kind. I'd take dirty bones but I'd prefer if they were meatless. The thought of soaking meaty bones in my bathtub makes me feel kind of ill. I've looked online but they're way too pricey. Any suggestions? A packing house perhaps? Know a farmer with bones scattered around the farm? Bone hunt! Thanks loves. If I procure enough bones I will post a picture of the finished product. -C |

Tucsonans, I want to see a living ton of documentation that you all went to the All Souls' Procession, or I will be very disappointed. C'mon -- it's the 20th anniversary! |

Screen printing in town?
Has anyone gotten T-shirt screen printing done here in Tucson? We are looking at about 80 shirts, a mix of kids and adult sizes. In the past we have gone to Caps and More up on Broadway and always been happy with their service--but I'd like to do a little comparison shopping. |

The ever changing club scene
Don't know why I didn't think to ask here sooner. I'm one half of the duo that comprises American Gods and I've been wondering lately what clubs are out here that are friendly to synth-infused, guitar-driven industrial metal anymore? We're used to playing Chaser's (awesome nightclub), Mardi Gras and The Sets (RIP), but there has to be more venues around Phoenix we can look at. Any suggestions? What has a good stage setup and a layout that people actually enjoy being in? I'm interested in your thoughts. Thanks for any insight, -Schreck |

Doctors in Tucson
I need a primary physician who takes Aetna in the Tucson area! It would be preferably if he/she lived around campus but I'm really open to anything - any recommendations on good doctors in the areas or doctors to avoid would be awesome. Thank you :) |

direct sales
Hey, Tucson. I have kind of a weird question. My college friend called me today to tell me about how she's doing well with Mary Kay and making that her full-time job for the time being. She said they have some bonuses for new sales reps coming up, and Christmas is always a great time to be selling things. Has anyone here had any luck selling Mary Kay or Avon? Are there many girls around campus selling it? I've been invited to a few parties, but it's always been for something weird like perfume or tupperware. |

Congress, Oct. 31st . . .
Hey Everyone, I'm trying to find out the website address of the photographer that was going around taking photos last night at Club Congress (Halloween). His name is Gordon. He took some pictures of me and said he'd post them on his site but was all out of business cards. He wrote his website name down on a small piece of paper, which I promptly lost. If any of you were there, met him and got his business card . . . I'd soooo appreciate it if you'd share that info! Thanks so much :) |

Network Maintenance - Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 04:00-05:00 GMT/UTC
EDIT: If you're reading this, our maintenance is OVER! The problem was not found on our equipment, which means we'll have to work with our ISP to fix this small problem -- which also means another maintenance window in the future -- but at least we have eliminated our side. Thank you everyone, and a special shout out to rekoil for giving me a great suggestion AND also the opportunity to feel like I've just called in to a local radio station. Have a great day, night or afternoon wherever you may be. --- Hi everyone, sorry for the late notice but I'm going to have to do some testing on 1 of our 4 internet circuits TONIGHT; Friday night or Saturday morning depending on which time zone you're in. Most of us shouldn't notice any impact, though there may be some slowness or lag when I switch traffic on to our other ISP circuits and then another hit when I stop the tests. If a page won't load or times out, try hitting refresh 1 or 2 times and it should load then. If it doesn't work at all... trust me, I'll be typing really really really fast to try to undo whatever I just did. Hopefully you'll have some Halloween candy (if you're in the USA and celebrate that kind of thing) nearby to take away the bitterness of a small site outage. :( Here's the handy-dandy Website That I Always Use to get a feel for when the maintenance will start in your area. Our site traffic historically dips on Friday afternoons until Saturday morning which is why we tend to pick this time for maintenance work. ( tech details )status.livejournal.org will, of course be updated before and after the maintenance window. Or else marta will get mad at me. :D bt |
